Ibn Jubayr Tours takes its name from the medieval Muslim Spanish geographer and traveler Ibn Jubayr (d. 614 AH/1217 CE) who penned a famed chronicle about his journey to Mecca and the various allied and non-allied territories he visited along the way. The mission of IJ Tours is to provide historically-focused programs for Western travelers interested in infusing their holidays with a taste of the past, and returning home having not just learned history but seen its remnants. We offer itineraries that trace the main arteries of the medieval Muslim world and beyond, provide access to lands that the average American and Western European traveler is unlikely to be exposed to. Our trips are led by seasoned local guides as well as established scholars and professors to generate an atmosphere of learning, companionship and nuanced appreciation for the past. We aim to ultimately visit all the lands Ibn Jubayr walked upon, and to embody his courageous, curious spirit as we venture beyond.
